My Crown, My Glory, My Denim Vest

You know when you find that awesome denim vest at the thrift store and immediately your brain is filled with thoughts of how you can give it a make over, well this is my vest. Honestly not only a vest, it's more like my favorite item of clothing. I love it because I have completely made it my own. Wearing it makes me feel powerful. Kind of like when a biker puts on their leather jacket, this vest represents who I am and what I like. My favorite part is adding stuff to it. I have already added studs and pins but I felt like it needed more color. So I sewed on some sequin.

Yes Please: Gamaray Pack

When I'm bored I like to day dream that I am a super hero, flying around town, fighting crime one criminal at a time. Sometimes I like to dream that I can eat all the ice cream in the world. And other times I just like to day dream that I have unlimited access to every clothing store in the world and when I walk in the sales associates greet me and say " Hello Adriana, feel free to take everything you want," and I would respond and say some thing like, "Cool. Don't mind if I do". But surely I'm not the only one who dreams that, right? If I had access to every store in the world with the power to take what ever I want, I think it would blow my mind. I would have a mental break down, fall down to my knees and scream at the top of my lungs unintelligible phrases. Then of course I would be escorted out by the armed forces and permanently stripped of my shopping privileges, and nobody wants that! So to save myself the trouble, I would only take one item per store. But It would have to be real special and shiny like this Gammaray backpack by UNIF. I would be one happy dreamer if I left my day dream with this item. :)

Going Green Avant Garde Fashion Show

This Monday I was excited to be showcasing my work at the annual Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Exhibition during Fashion Week San Antonio. The Avant Garde fashion show gives designers of all levels the opportunity to showcase an original design made of recycled, reused or re-purposed materials. In my opinion the purpose of the fashion show is to showcase something dramatic and out of the ordinary to show that fashion can be made up of just about anything you can imagine.
My design was made of the silver lining inside of ordinary chip bags, mostly Funnyons (my favorite), duct tape, paper and glue. I wanted my deign to look fierce and I wanted my model to look strong and tough. My overall inspiration was medieval knights and their armor. I wanted my design to be over the top representation of knight.
The fashion show was filled with very talented designers, most of them still in high school! I was impressed and honestly very relieved that so many young people in this city are taking advantage of the fashion opportunities that are being presented to them.San Antonio is not the most fashionable city, but the fashion scene is quickly growing. I'm excited to so what comes next and excited for next years San Antonio Fashion Week.
